Comments: White socks are essential to foot
hygiene. You will do most of your own laundry, so get a Kiyi brush. Soap
and shaving gear (except razors) are usually available. The best watch
straps are canvas with no metal parts. Carry a couple. An extra sea bag
may be used to send home excess gear or souvenirs.
A knife is
carried by every good sailor. The whistle and reflector are useful in
signaling. Have a compass to find your way if you are in the jungle or
adrift in a raft. The magnifying glass can be used to start a fire. Put
your name on the canteen issued to you. Keep it on your web belt for going
over the side and have it full of water. Flashlights are always useful.
Put one in your life jacket.
